After a week of adjusting to the busy schedule and very late nights, it was nice to have a relaxing day and catch up on sleep. However, we started the day with business as usual, getting up at 8 AM to see my host brother, Juanfran, play in a football game. We went to the pitch about 45 minutes outside of the city to watch. They won! Afterwards I joined the team for a passionate celebration in the locker rooms with dancing and shouting. I also got to try an amazing hot dog with crispy potatoes on top. After that, we went back to the apartment to rest for the afternoon. Exhausted from the week, I took a nice long nap for a couple hours before waking up and FaceTiming my parents. Then it was time to hit the streets again, this time to watch the Brazil v. Morocco World Cup match at a friend’s apartment. It was around 8 of us and I was the only American, so I had to really use my Spanish listening skills to understand what everyone was talking about. However, we all bonded over the fervor of the game, in which Brazil and Morocco tied, both playing their absolute hardest. While watching, we ordered absolutely incredible burgers from Dean and Denny’s, where I had a double bacon cheeseburger that trumped any fast food in the US. After hours of sitting around and talking, it was time for Juanfran and I to head home, getting back at around midnight (something I have gotten very used to since arriving in Argentina). It was a great mix of relaxation and activity and it was very fun to get an authentic view at what teenagers like to do on weekends. I look forward to my next weekend here.
