I started off my day today a bit tired, as I’m still getting used to the Argentinian schedule. I had some toast and took a shower, and then I was out of the door. I get rides to school with my host father, and usually get there a little bit earlier than most of the others. Ignacio and I then went to our morning roll call which happens every morning, which is usually pretty chaotic. After that, I went to a class called Sociales which was pretty fun, as I had a lot of mate and I didn’t really have to do anything. After that, we (exchange students) went to a planetarium which happened to be closed when we arrived from the train. After that, we went to what was basically a zoo, with different animals such as giraffes, hippos, ostriches, etc. Then we went to go eat lunch, which was burger king, which wasn’t very different from the US, besides the addition of some Argentinian pastries. When we returned to school, we had a class with 7th graders, and I was with Alex and Will for this. They didn’t speak the best english, but it was still fun being in their class and sharing similarities and differences between our cultures. We then proceeded to a class with kids who had some learning disabilities, whom were also very fun, as they showed us a lot of their world cup stickers and knowledge. Next, we had a bunch of pastries and coffee from the cafeteria, which were incredible. We ended our day at school with a few games of soccer, which was a lot of fun. After that long day, Ignacio and I went home to go get ready for our asado. An asado is pretty much a barbecue with some of the best meat you could imagine. The kids made it all themselves, and overall it was just a great time. On our way out, me and some kids got stuck in an elevator for about 10 minutes, which wasn’t too bad, and maybe even a little bit fun. Finally, at around midnight, Ignacio and I got in our uber and headed home.

Today was our first full day in Argentina, and it was great! We woke up to some light rain, so my exchange brother Joaquin and I took the bus to the school. We met in a room with the rest of the 5th year students and the exchange students, before grabbing a snack. Today we got to tour the city, so we got on a bus with a guide before driving around. We drove past many important monuments and buildings, such as la casa rosada and el obelisco, before stopping in the neighborhood of boca. Boca is famous for its colorfully painted homes and soccer stadium, nicknamed “la bombonera”, which we enjoyed visiting. We also stopped in the neighborhood of San Telmo, and had some incredible empanadas. After taking the bus back to school, I walked home with Joaquin. We spent the afternoon playing an Argentine card game called truco. A few hours ago, we left home for la Iglesia de San Nicolas, where many of the students meet for Youth Group. We were able to make it Buenos Aires safely. The first plane ride was amazing! We got to have our own row of seats because of the lack of people on the plane ride to Miami. The second ride was definitely more chaotic, however I thought it was good. There was a young person who tried to take Señora Basin’s seat, but he was wrong and it was all a misunderstanding. When I came back from the airport, we went straight to a restaurant. The food was delicious. I had ojo de bife con puré de papas. (Steak and potatoes). Later on, I attended a fútbol game with my host brother, Dante. Sadly, our team lost in a penalty shootout. So far this has been a really great trip. -Cole

T oday I started my day with Fruit Loops cereal. And it was very good just like in the US I didn’t detect any difference in quality. Afterwards Juan’s father dropped his daughter (Juan’s twin sister) Josefina off at her school and shortly after he dropped off Juan and I. Juan and I started our day with roll call and it was a good experience with a very nosy group of restless seniors. Afterwards myself and the other exchange students from the United States went to three English classes:   The first English class focused on the subject of slang both in the English and Spanish language. It was a productive discussion in which I learned helpful and “non helpful” slang. The classroom was really strong and our teacher was not pleased with it and as a result (within the first 5-10 minutes) two students were kicked out of the class and sent to the office.
